Fonds 1818 is a endowed charity that supports socially relevant projects in the Delft, Zoetermeer, The Hague, Leiden, Duin- en Bollenstreek areas, and the interlinking districts. The Fund evolved after a merger between the Nutsspaarbank in 's-Gravenhage and the VSB Bank in 1992.
Fonds 1818 started life in the late 20th century as a new foundation with long-established roots. It came about when a philanthropic organisation known as the ‘Maatschappij tot Nut van ’t Algemeen’ was first founded. In 1818, The Hague division of 't Nut founded the Nutsspaarbank in 's Gravenhage.
After the Nutsspaarbank and the VSB Bank merged, they invested a sum of money as shares in a foundation that aimed to support socially relevant projects. This was the VSB Fonds Den Haag e.o. In 2001, the foundation changed its name to Fonds 1818.
